Families in Central Texas are working harder than ever — but rising costs, political chaos, and underinvestment in our communities are holding us back.
Josh Reyna is running for the Texas House to focus on what actually matters: lowering costs, strengthening public schools, protecting our freedoms, expanding healthcare, and building a future where everyone in House District 49 can thrive.
With 16 years of experience working in the Texas Capitol, he knows that fighting MAGA is the bare minimum – we have to deliver for our districts. Here’s what Josh will do:
Across House District 49 –– we’re hearing concerns about affordability. Housing costs are too high. Property taxes keep rising. Groceries, insurance, and utilities strain family budgets.
Josh will:
- Deliver real property tax relief that benefits homeowners and renters
- Expand housing supply to bring down rent and home prices
- Tackle rising homeowners and auto insurance rates
- Increase wages and protect workers from wage theft
- Oppose policies that drive up everyday costs
Affordability isn’t abstract — it’s whether families can stay in their homes and build a future here. Josh will make lower costs and stronger paychecks a top priority.
Parents and educators in House District 49 want strong public schools — not political distractions.
Josh will:
- Fully fund public education to account for inflation and lower property taxes
- Eliminating STAAR and fixing enforceable teaching standards that leave no kids behind
- Raise teacher pay and reduce classroom overcrowding
- Overturn school voucher schemes that drain public schools
- Invest in career and technical education within community college and higher education settings
- Expand access to pre-K and after-school programs
- Get politics and white-christian nationalism out of the classroom.
Texas has the resources. Our classrooms should never be underfunded while politicians argue about culture wars.
Texas has the highest uninsured rate in the nation. Families in HD-49 feel that every day — through high premiums, medical debt, and limited access to care.
Josh will:
- Expand Medicaid to cover more working Texans and bring billions of federal dollars home
- Lower prescription drug costs
- Protect reproductive healthcare and maternal health access
- Increase funding for mental health services
- Support community health clinics and local hospitals
- Stand up to Big Medicine and Pharma to put patients over profits
Healthcare is a right and should not be a privilege reserved for those who can afford it. Expanding access lowers costs for everyone and strengthens our local economy.
Freedom means more than slogans — it means the ability to vote, speak, learn, and live authentically without government interference.
Josh will:
- Protect Dreamers and immigrant communities from ICE
- Proactively expand voting rights and make it easier — not harder — for eligible Texans to cast a ballot
- Modernize voter registration and support secure, accessible online systems
- End gerrymandering
- Roll back censorship and restrictions on free speech in college campuses and public classrooms
- Protect academic freedom and ensure educators can teach honest history
- Defend the civil rights of all Texans
- Protect the LGBTQ+ community and uphold every person’s freedom to love who they love and be who they are
Government should not decide whose voice counts or whose identity is valid. Josh will stand firmly for equal rights and personal liberty.
Central Texas continues to grow — but our infrastructure hasn’t kept pace.
Josh will:
- Allow more state transportation dollars to fund public transit
- Support regional rail and expanded transit options
- Invest in sidewalks, bike lanes, and pedestrian safety
- Prioritize road maintenance and safety over endless highway expansions
- Work to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries
Transportation policy should reduce congestion, save lives, and give families back their time.
Growth should create opportunity — not displacement. The state has long been a barrier for affordable housing creation, but Josh will use his 16 years of experience to fix that.
Josh will:
- Support smart land-use reforms to lower housing costs
- Protect water resources and green space
- Ensure infrastructure keeps up with population growth
- Bring state investments back to HD-49 communities
We can grow responsibly while preserving what makes Central Texas special.
